Want to know more about the padel court? Let’s get started…
How big is a padel court compared to a tennis court?
The padel court is 10 metres (32.8 feet) wide and 20 metres (65.6 feet) long.
By comparison a doubles tennis court measures 23.78 metres (78 feet) in length and 10.97 metres (36 feet) in width.
Differently from a tennis court (and crucially for space considerations) there is no need to account for additional space beyond the size of the court itself. As a minimum requirement a tennis court needs to be 32.92 metres in length and 16.46 metres (54 feet) in width but on average, we are looking at 36.6 metres (120 feet) in length and 18.3 metres in with. This means that you can fit up to 3 padel courts in the space of a single tennis court (depending on the size of the tennis court)!
What about the net?
The padel net extends for the full length of the court hence is 10 metres long from post to post.
The height of the net needs to be a minimum of 0.88 metres (2.89 feet) at the lowest point and 0.92 metres (3.02 feet)at the higest point.
The metallic chord holding the net needs to be maximum 0.1 metres thick.
The posts are always padded in case of accidental impact.
The service boxes and the perimeter walls
The service boxes take up 7 metres (23 feet) of the court in length and 5 (16.4 feet) in width.
All around the perimeter we find walls.
As marked using the bold black lines in the diagram on the left (<-) we have glass walls from the floor upwards around the back of the court for the whole length of the baseline (10 metres) and for 4 metres on the sides starting from the back. The remaining 12 metres (39.37 feet) on the side walls of the court are made of a plastic or metal grid.
How tall are the walls?
As seen on the diagram on the right (->) the walls are 3 metres (9,84 feet) tall across the side of the court and 4 metres (13.12 feet) tall across the back and for 3 metres along the side of the court.
Crucially the walls are also made of different materials at different heights.
Whilst across the central 12 metres (39.37 feet) of the court the walls are made of plastic or metal grids, for the remaining 4 metres on the side walls and for all the 10 metres of the back wall we find a mixture of grid and glass:
for the back walls and start of the side walls we have 3 metres (9.84 feet) of glass at the bottom and 1 metre (3.28 feet) of grid at the top and for the remaining metre of the side walls we have 2 metres (6.56 feet) of glass at the bottom and 1 metre (3.28 feet) of glass at the top.
